Day 1. Accra

Arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, you will be met by an official from African Explorers who will transfer the group to a hotel or a place of accommodation. There will be orientation with an optional welcome dinner.

Day 2. Accra

Set off from Accra to Aburi  for quad biking experience.  Here you will enjoy a guided tour through villages and farms all around the Aburi Mountain. You will also visit the Aburi Gardens where you will see an abundant collection of tropical flora. You then return to for an overnight stay at the guest house.

Day 3. Accra to Volta Region

Setting off after breakfast, we drive to the village of Liate Wote, brifely walking through the village to enjoy the lush greenery of the village, you will visit the Tagbo Waterfalls to refresh yourself. You will visit to the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, a place where monkeys and people live side by side and end the day by participating in a cultural performance.

Day 4.  Akosombo

Wake up to join in the family’s morning customs such as farming, cooking, etc. After lunch you will take a boat-cruise on the longest river in Ghana, the river Volta.  Whilst enjoying the beauty of the surrounding environment. Come back to Ho for Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5.   Volta Region to Accra

We embark on a journey to see the Wli waterfalls, which is not only the highest in West Africa but also one of the most stunning. We begin our adventure from the village through a refreshing tropical rainforest while being serenaded by the river’s sounds as it flowed through the forest. After enjoying the cool and refreshing spring-water, we returned to the village restaurant for lunch.

Day 6.   Ho to Accra

Set off for Accra in the morning. After resting you will step out in the evening to see and experience Ghanaian night life. The food and music to be experienced.

Day 7.  Accra to Tamale

On this day you will take a flight to Tamale in the northern region of Ghana. Upon arrival you will be met by a representative of African Explorers who will take you to the Mole National Park. The Park home to over 85 species of mammals that call this including elephants, wild buck, and a diverse array of birdlife.  En route to the park, there will be brief stop overs at the Mognori-Eco village to participate in a shea butter making process.

Day 8.  Tamale to Salaga

This morning you will briefly spend time with the host family as you participate in their morning routines before setting off for Salaga.

At Salaga, you pay your respects to the Chief of Salaga and explore the town’s prominent slave market, slave wells, and cemetery, which has been transformed into a shrine. Additionally, you can hear firsthand accounts of the history of slavery from descendants of former slaves. Afterwards, take the journey back to Tamale briefly stopping at the Larabanga mosque, the oldest mosque in Ghana.

Day 9. Tamale to Kumasi

Say goodbye to Tamale and drive down to Kumasi, the garden city of Ghana. At Kumasi you will visit the largest open air market in West Africa, the Kejetia market. Here you will see our indefatigable market women busy behind their mini stalls calling out to buyers to come purchase some of their products.

Day 10. Kumasi to Elmina

This morning you will visit the Manhyia Palace, home of the King of the Ashanti Kingdom to see the Palace Museum and hear an oral account of the Ashanti Tribe. You’ll then head to the craft villages of Ntonso and Ahwiaa, known for their exquisite adinkra designs and carvings, respectively. You’ll also stop by Adanwomase, where you can engage with locals and gain hands-on experience with traditional practices such as kente weaving, farming, palm wine tapping and more

You leave the Garden city behind and continue downwards towards Elmina.

Day 11.   Elmina

Start the day by visiting the Elmina Castle including a guided walk through the fish market and the Elmina Township. Also visit the Kakum National Park, home to the longest canopy walkway in West Africa for an exhilarating experience, overnight stay in the kakum Tree house.

Day 12.   Elmina to Accra

After breakfast  you will be taken to the international stingless
bee centre for education on the environment and eco-tourism.  After which you depart for Accra. After lunch you will be taken to the independence square for a photo opportunity, you have the option to ascend the top of the Black star gate with a backdrop of the breath taking view of Accra. Return back to the guest house for dinner.

Day 13.    Accra to Aburi

After breakfast you have optional activities. After lunch you descend down to Accra to spend the rest of the day participating in the daily routine of a Ghanaian family to experience how the Ghanaian in the capital city lives; summarizing the different shades of life of the average Ghanaian in the various parts of the country.

Day 14.  Free Day - Departure

Spend this free day by going to the central business district and the Makola market to make any final purchases of the fabrics and spices or any other thing on sale in the markets. Also visit the Arts center see and possibly purchase handmade artifacts by the craftsmen.

End of trip.
